Do you know all about glass adhesive?

1. Material overview
The scientific name of glass glue is “silicone sealant”. It is the most common type of adhesive in the industry and is a type of silicone glue. Simply put, glass glue is a material that bonds and seals various types of glass (facing materials) with other base materials.
The adhesives used in indoor node construction nodes are all glass glue for closing or pasting.
2. Material properties
Although everyone calls it glass glue, it definitely does not mean that it can only be used for pasting glass; as long as the structure is not heavy and does not require high adhesive strength, glass glue can be used to fix it, such as small-area paintings. Frames, small area wood veneers, metal veneers, etc. can all be fixed using glass glue.
In the industry, when it comes to glass glue, everyone recognizes it as the authentic “sealing artifact and construction savior.” When I mentioned the edge closing section before, I have said it countless times that when leaks and leaks occur due to node defects or construction problems, In the case of holes, use glass glue of the same color to repair and close them, which can achieve a good decorative effect.
3. Material construction technology
The curing process of silicone glue develops from the surface inwards. The surface drying time and curing time of silicone glue with different characteristics are different, so if you want to repair the surface, you must do it before the glass glue is surface dry (acid glue, neutral glue Transparent glue should generally be applied within 5-10 minutes, and neutral variegated glue should generally be applied within 30 minutes). If color separation paper is used to cover a certain area, after applying the glue, it must be removed before the skin forms.
4. Material classification
There are three common classification dimensions for glass glue. One is by components, the second is by characteristics, and the third is by cost:
Classification by component:

According to the components, it is mainly divided into single-component and two-component; single-component glass glue is cured by contacting moisture in the air and absorbing heat to produce a cross-linking reaction. It is a common product on the market and is mostly used in ordinary indoors. Decorating. Such as: kitchen and bathroom pasting, sun board glass pasting, fish tank pasting, glass curtain wall, aluminum-plastic panel pasting and other common civilian projects.

Two-component silicone sealant is stored separately in two groups, A and B. Curing and adhesion can only be achieved after mixing. It is generally used in engineering projects, such as insulating glass deep processing manufacturers, curtain wall engineering construction, etc. It is a product that is easy to store and has strong stability.

Classification by characteristics:

In terms of characteristics, there are many categories, but based on my current experience, for the knowledge of silicone glue, we only need to remember that common glass glue is mainly divided into two categories: “sealant” and “structural glue” Camps; There are many detailed branches within these two camps.

We don’t need to delve into the specific details. We just need to remember that sealants are mainly used to seal the gaps in materials to ensure their air tightness, water tightness, tensile and compression resistance, such as common insulating glass seals and metal aluminum plate seals. , closing of various materials, etc. Structural adhesives are mainly used for components that require strong bonding, such as the installation of curtain walls, indoor sunrooms, etc.

Classification by ingredients: This classification dimension is most familiar to designer friends and is mainly divided into acid glass glue and neutral glass glue;

Acidic glass glue has strong adhesion, but is easy to corrode materials. For example, after using acidic glass glue to affix a silver mirror, the mirror film of the silver mirror will be corroded. Moreover, if the acidic glass glue at the decoration site has not dried completely, it will corrode our fingers when we touch it with our hands. Therefore, in most indoor structures, the mainstream adhesive is still neutral glass adhesive.
5. Storage method
Glass glue should be stored in a cool, dry place, below 30℃. Good quality acid glass glue can ensure an effective shelf life of more than 12 months, and general acid glass glue can be stored for more than 6 months;

Neutral weather-resistant and structural adhesives guarantee a shelf life of more than 9 months. If the bottle has been opened, please use it up in a short time; if the glass glue has not been used up, the glue bottle must be sealed. When using it again, the bottle mouth should be unscrewed, all blockages should be removed or the bottle mouth should be replaced.
6. Things to note
1. A glue gun must be used when applying glue. The glue gun can ensure that the spray route will not be skewed and other parts of the object will not be stained with glass glue. If it is stained once, it must be removed immediately and wait until it solidifies before doing it again. I’m afraid it will be troublesome. Designers need to understand this.
2. The most common problem with glass glue is blackening and mildew. Even using waterproof glass glue and anti-mold glass glue cannot completely avoid such problems. Therefore, it is not suitable for construction in places where there is water or immersion for a long time.

3. Anyone who knows something about glass glue will know that glass glue is an organic substance that is easily soluble in organic solvents such as grease, xylene, acetone, etc. Therefore, glass glue cannot be constructed with substrates containing such substances.

4. Ordinary glass glue must be cured with the participation of moisture in the air, except for special and special-purpose glass glue (such as anaerobic glue). Therefore, if the place you want to construct is a closed space and extremely dry, then ordinary glass Glue won’t do the job.

5. The surface of the substrate to which the glass glue is to be bonded must be clean and free of other attachments (such as dust, etc.), otherwise the glass glue will not bond firmly or fall off after curing.

6. Acidic glass glue will release irritating gases during the curing process, which can irritate the eyes and respiratory tract. Therefore, doors and windows must be opened after construction, and the doors and windows must be fully cured and the gases have dissipated before moving in.
